Top marks as Pennycuick Collins secures planning permission for Selly Oak student accommodation

May 18th 2018

Pennycuick Collins’ planning and development team has secured planning permission to convert the first and second floors above retail premises at 547-549 Bristol Road, Selly Oak, to a 5-bedroom student residence.  The firm’s building consultants are now working with the landlords to project manage refurbishment plans.

Planning and development surveyor Suki Kaur said:

“Investment in student accommodation in this part of Birmingham is rising, and we anticipate growing demand from investors looking to upgrade and convert buildings to meet growing demand in this increasingly popular asset class. The plans we submitted reflect the facilities and amenities which today’s students expect.”

Neil Randle from the firm’s residential lettings department who specialises in student rental opportunities added:

“As the West Midlands is home to 12 universities, it is no surprise that we have a thriving student lettings property market.  We work collaboratively with the various stakeholders in this sector to bring high quality space to the market in the university property hotspots throughout the region.”

Pennycuick Collins offers tailored property services for the student accommodation sector, covering a wide spectrum of needs, for example, pre-investment advice, building surveys and feasibility studies, valuation, refurbishment projects, planning applications, building regulations, through to residential property management and lettings.  Earlier this year the firm completed a major refurbishment of Bristol Street Student residences, a 154-bed student accommodation development located within the Gooch Estate in Birmingham’s Southside district.
